This Southern Railway station was built in 1905 on West Trade Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was designed in a Spanish mission style with a red-tiled roof and mock campanile. Inside, crowds meandered through the flower-filled waiting room, and Gersham's Southern Railway Dining Room offered quail on toast for 5 cents a plate. Outside the station, travelers were often frustrated by the muddy streets and infrequency of the horse-drawn carriage service.
